Prizes & winners
In addition to the prizes for 2014 we have also awarded several other prizes. The Innovation Award this year was not a team, but an entire class. The V20 class is innovative in its entirety. "The boats show potential for the future," said Joris Melkert, head of the Technical Committee. This price was provided by Strukton.
The undisputed winner of the Bad Luck Prize was S.D.O.G. Racing Team. Just before the start of the race their boat went up in flames. With their solar boat from 2010 they have finished the race.
The TU Delft Solar Boat Team had this year, according to the jury of the Design Award, the biggest wow factor and therefore they won this award. "It is a radically new and unique concept with innovative technology and elegant design. If he sails on its hydrofoils it has a neat and smooth design with beautiful hydrofoils, "says Douwe Huitema, president of the jury.
The Fair Play Prize goes to HvA Solar Team. They have distinguished themselves by repeatedly helping other teams. In Blauwestad the American Carnegie Mellon Solar Racing could count on their helping hand and they helped some V20 boats.
The team that won the Encouragement Award was the Solar Team Friese Poort Sneek. They were the only solar boat in the Challenge A that dared to sail on hydrofoils. "And that deserves encouragement." This prize was provided by Noorderzijlvest Water.
The Vripack Speed Battle Award was presented to the CLAFIS Private Energy Solar Boat Team, they won the mass start.
